A securing knot.

A binding knot is used to secure a rope or line around an object. It is also used for tying two knots together, however it is not recommended for this purpose due to potential instability of the knot.

A reef knot is formed by tying right-handed overhand knot and then a left-handed overhand knot, or vice-versa. Also commonly known as 'right over left; left over right."

Used in sailing to reef the main sail and to tie a bundle of objects together securely.

A packers knot.

The basis for several other knots, such as the Packers Knot. It is very important in both sailing and rock climbing. as it is used as a method to stop ropes from running out of retaining devices.

Pass the tail over itself to form a loop. Continue under and around the standing end. Complete the knot by passing the tail down through the loop and then pull tight.

Used in sailing, rock climbing and abseiling.

An end of rope knot.

Used to secure the end of a rope to a fixed object.

A round turn wraps the rope around the object (completely encircling it) and the two half hitches secure the end around the standing part of the object.

Used in boating to tie a mooring.

A binding knot.

This knot is particularly useful where the length of the running end needs to be adjustable, since feeding in rope from either direction will loosen the knot to be tightened at a new position

Wrap the free end of a rope around a post, then crossover itself and around the post again. Slip working end under last wrap then pull tight.

Used in securing lines running along a series of posts, belaying, starting lashings and weak binding.

A basic maritime knot.

The bowline is used to make a loop at one end of a line. It is tied with the rope's working end also known as the "tail" or "end". The loop may pass around or through an object during the making of the knot. The knot tightens when loaded at (pulled by) the standing part of the line.

Form a small loop in the rope, enter the tail through the loop then continue around the standing end, then pass the tail back through the loop.

Used in making a fixed loop at the end of a line.

A joining Knot.

Used to join two ropes together. Doubled, it is effective in binding lines of different diameter or rigidity securely together.

Make a bite in the thicker piece of rope, pace the thinner rope through the bite. then around the bigger rope and tail. Finally, tuck the thinner piece of rope under itself and pull.

Used in making a net with ope.

A securing knot.

The Cleat Hitch secures a rope to a cleat.

Take a turn around the base of the cleat, and then bring the line over the top of the cleat. Wrap the line back under the arm of the cleat opposite the first turn, then back over the top of the cleat. Wrap under the first arm a 2nd time and then back over the top of the cleat. Then form an under hand loop and slip that loop over the arm of the cleat, which pins the free end under the last wrap. Finally, pull the free end tight.

Used in securing a Halyard.
