This system, consisting of the heart, blood and blood vessels, is responsible for transporting materials throughout the entire body.

The blood delivers oxygen to all the cells in the body and collects carbon dioxide and returns it to the lungs in exchange for more oxygen. The blood also delivers nutrients and water to all parts of the body.

The blood is pumped by the heart to the lungs to pick up oxygen and transport it to all body cells. After delivering the oxygen it collects the carbon dioxide and transports it to the lungs where it is exhaled.

Cold and numb toes and feet are due to poor circulation.

The heart beats about 3 billion times during an average lifetime of an individual.

This system is made up of the central and peripheral nervous system.The CNS is made up of the brain and spinal cord.The PNS is made up of the somatic and autonomic nervous system.

Monitors and co-ordinates internal organ function and responds to changes in the external environment.

The body takes information from the environment with sensory receptors. These signals go to the the CNS which processes and determines the appropriate response. Action by the muscles and glands results.

The hand touches a hot surface and results in pulling away to avoid the injury of a burn.

There are more nerve cells in the human brain than stars in the milky way. Also, an adult male brain is heavier than the female on average by 100grams.

This system is a collection of glands that secrete chemical messages caled hormones. The main glands include the pituitary, thyroid, pancreas, adrenal, gonads.

Helps maintain growth and homeostasis within the body. It is involved in regulating mood, growth and development, tissue function, metabolism and sexual function and reproduction.

The body's chemical messengers, hormones, transfer information between cells. These vary depending on the hormone and the cells.

The thyroid produces thyroxine. Under activity can result in lethargy and weight gain.

The endocrine system is responsible for 30 distinct hormones in the human body.

The organs that make up the digestive system include the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small and large Intestine and the liver.

Breaks down food into smaller molecules to provide nutrition and energy for the body

The organs of the digestive tract contain a layer of muscle that enable the walls to move, to propel food and liquid through.This is known as peristalsis.Each organ has a distinct function in the absorption of nutrients and disposal of waste products.Major hormones aid in this process.

Food is taken in and after being chewed and swallowed , changed into smaller molecules of nutrients to be absorbed by the body.

1.7 litres of saliva is produced each day & the small intestine is at least 20ft long

The kidney, bladder, ureters and urethra produces, stores and eliminates urine. These are waste products.

Removes wastes and maintains water balance in the body. Concentrates urine Regulates electrolytes Maintains acid base homeostasis

Blood is received by the kidneys via the renal artery. It is filtered through the nephrons and glomerulus. The filtered wastes pass into the bladder to be excreted. The filtered blood passes back into the blood stream via the renal vein.

The more you drink, the more you excrete. the more dilute the urine is. Inversely if you are dehydrated , urine will be concentrated and small in quantity.

Humans produce 2.9 litres of urine over 24 hours, which can vary with activities throughout the day. Also, urine contains large amount of urea, an excellent source of nitrogen for plants and accelerates compost.

The lymphatic system is a very complex network of cells, tissues and organs consisting of lymph, lymph nodes, white blood cells, T and B Cells, spleen, thymus tonsils and bone marrow that provides the first line of defence to foreign organisms.

Protects organisms against foreign bodies and infection.These may be bacterial, microbes, viruses or parasites.

Leukocytes circulate through the body between organs and nodes via lymphatic vessels and blood vessels monitoring the body for germs or substances that might cause problems.They are produced and stored in many locations in the body.

If a child is allergic to peanuts there may be itchying and swelling around the mouth when they are eaten.This is the immune system at work to protect body from further serious damage.

Getting less then 5 hours sleep a night has shown to greatly depress immune function. Also, just after one month of quitting smoking, the immune system can strengthen.

Female and male parts make up this system, for survival of the human race. Female consists of ovaries, uterus vagina and breasts. The male testicles, seminal vesicles and penis.

Enables the production of offspring through sexual reproduction

The female ovulates, producing an egg for fertilisation . The male produces,maintains and transports sperm. After fertilisation the egg is nurtured in the uterus to develop into a fetus and be delivered from the womb.

Sexual intercourse where there is fertilization of the egg will result in a pregnancy and new life.

A woman is born with all the eggs she will have in her life, which is about about 2,000,000. Also, males can produce about 1,000 sperms per second.
